[SF] The Art of the Cocktail, Chapter One

from 35.00

"The Art of the Cocktail" is a beginners course designed to help mixology enthusiasts learn the basics of how to start crafting their own cocktails. We will explore the history of cocktails, learn about the essential bartender's tools, taste and compare a selection of spirits, and make (and taste!) several standard cocktails. Cocktails are best enjoyed among friends, so you can expect this class to be as fun and social as it is informative. Students will be provided with a handbook at the end of class to help them start building their own bar at home - you will be hosting your own cocktail party in no time!

  • History of prohibition and the popularity of the cocktail in San Francisco
  • Introduction to tools of the trade
  • "Spirit walk" examining various spirits (vodka, gin, bourbon, rye, scotch, etc) including tasting
  • Cocktail making demonstration and tasting of three standard cocktails, including cocktail ingredient ratios, explanations on the purposes of citrus, modifiers, bitters, ice, and garnishes, and shaken vs. stirred cocktails
