I believe that food is our medicine. Throughout the last couple of years I have tried out different modified diets from being vegetarian to vegan to being paleo for various health reasons. The most potent thread between all of my diets was to eat whole real food. Knowledge is power and cultivating consciousness of what you put into your body is a gift that changed my life. I have set the intention to try make anything that I would purchase in a package from a store. Throughout this process I have learned the secret yucky things that are put in packaged food and been able to steer clear of those rascals. I have transformed my relationship with food and cultivated a deep love and respect for all things I put in my body.

My journey into brewing Kombucha started during the Summer of 2011 when I WWOOFed (world wide opportunities on organic farms) on a blueberry farm on Vancouver Island. The owner of the farm had intriguing jars full of the bubbly elixir that lived in a dark corner of that house. I inquired about her curious drink that she enjoyed every morning and she explained to me how the magic of brewing Kombucha worked. The moment the sweet tangy carbonated liquid hit my tongue, I was hooked. As a parting gift at the end of my stay on the farm she gave me a SCOBY (a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast)-the essential ingredient for brewing Kombucha. Since then, my SCOBY, also know as a "mother," has traveled with me for the last 2 years. We have made our way from the flats of Montana to the mountains of Yosemite to the ocean in the Pacific Northwest. Along the way I have been experimenting with different flavors and brewing methods while sharing my Kombucha gift with many people. I love the connection brewing Kombucha creates as well as the empowerment it gives brewers when they can make something that most people buy in stores.
